It was a low-scoring day in the Blue Jays system on Sunday.

For the fourth straight day, the Vancouver Canadians were rained out, but the three other affiliates were in action, with two teams picking up a win.

Let’s dig in!

Buffalo wins second straight

This game only needed five innings, as the Buffalo Bisons defeated the Iowa Cubs 2-0 after it started raining.

There were only five hits during the game, all singles, as Nathan Lukes, Damiano Palmegiani, Leo Jimenez, Max McDowell, and Steward Berroa all finished with one hit. Will Robertson accounted for three of Buffalo’s six walks and now has a 20.3 BB% this season with five homers. Orelvis Martinez, Rafeael Lantigua, and Berroa had the other three.

In terms of pitching, Troy Watson started this game and finished with a line of 2.2 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 5 K, bringing his season ERA to 6.75 with a 6.10 FIP, along with a 28.3 K%. Connor Cooke picked up the win, striking out two and walking one batter in his one inning and one third of work. Nick Fraze picked up the fifth-inning save, walking and striking out a batter in his inning of work. This was Fraze’s first professional save.

New Hampshire ended a four-game losing streak

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats have had a rough go of things in the past two and a half weeks, as they were on a four-game losing streak and lost nine of their last ten games coming into Sunday’s game. However, they also won a low scoring game, defeating the Binghamton Rumble Ponies 2-1.

Gabriel Martinez has been a doubles machine this season, as he hit his eighth-double of the season on Sunday to go along with his two home runs. This double was one of just two hits, as Riley Tirotta had the other one, a single, that made it a 1-0 game in the bottom of the third. Andres Sosa walked twice, while Michael Turconi walked once.

Trenton Wallace had a good starting, finishing with a line of 5 P, 3 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 K to bring his season ERA to 2.16. This was his best start of the season, and he even picked up the win! Hunter Gregory had a hold, finishing with a line of 2 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K with a home run given up in the top of the seventh.

Trevor Clifton struck out two and walked one in his inning of work, while Jimmy Burnette picked up a save by striking out a batter and walking one in the top of the ninth.

Dunedin’s losing streak hits nine games

The Fisher Cats were able to end their losing streak on Sunday, but the Dunedin Blue Jays weren’t so fortunate. With a 3-1 loss to the Jupiter Hammerheads, the D-Jays have now lost nine straight games and have a record of 9-12.

Out of any affiliate to play Sunday, the D-Jays actually had the most hits, believe it or not. Cristian Feliz had the only extra-base hit, a double. Victor Arias had a three-single performance, while Tucker Toman, Manuel Beltre, Bryce Arnold, and Jean Joseph had the other hits.

Gage Stanifer, a 2022 draftee, made his Florida State League debut on Sunday, finishing with a line of 2 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 2 K. The fastball averaged 92.6 mph and maxed out at 93.8 mph, while his slider generated three whiffs on seven total swings for a 43 whiff%. Moreover, the changeup also generated two whiffs on six total swings.

Eliander Alcalde came in from the bullpen, and struck out four and walked a batter in three innings pitched. Kai Peterson struck out a batter, but allowed an earned run in his inning of work. Keiner Leon gave up a walk and a hit, but got out of the jam, while Aaron Munson struck out two in a clean inning of work.
