Eric Bischoff: AEW TV Is The Most Horrific Pro Wrestling Show On Prime Time Cable In Forever

Never one to mince words, Eric Bischoff gave us another nugget, saying AEW TV is the most horrific wresting show on prime time cable in forever.

He has a history of having a loud mouth, and he has experience to back it up. He aided WCW in dominating the Monday Night Wars for close to two years. But he also was involve in the company’s demise. And, as AEW struggles to battle against WWE, many have likened the fledgling company to the long-defunct former home of Bischoff.

So, when AEW gets compared to the WCW heyday? Eric Bischoff is more qualified than most to chime in. And last week on Dynamite, we saw AEW do a thing similar to what the New World Order did to Bischoff decades earlier. Tony Khan did what he said he would never do (become an on-air character) as he was attacked by the returned Jack Perry as well as The Elite. Khan sold his “injuries” all weekend during the 2024 NFL Draft, which was just hillarious.

But when people were suggesting that the attack on Khan was like when Hall and Nash attacked Bischoff, he had to speak up on his podcast. And he did not sugarcoat things at all. While some might have seen the attack as an homage, Bischoff called it not at all entertaining. The former member of the nWo offered that, had the entire happening been approached as a parody, an SNL skit? It maybe would have worked. As it transpired, the whole thing was just bad.

To add my own 2 cents on things? It was cringe. I watched the replay, and nothing about it makes me want to tune in and see where things go. From the unneeded airing of the Wembley footage (which did not show anything damning to anyone) to what transpired last week, neither Bischoff nor I was all that impressed. I would chalk it up to a few things. AEW has dropped the ball with Okada, for one. The Young Bucks are utterly boring in the ring, and their over the top outfits took away from what should have been a villainous attack. As for Jack Perry? Just not doing anything. And Tony Khan himself? The man just sold it so awkwardly. While other owners and bosses have been involved in on-air altercations, any one of them I can think of was far more believable than what transpired last Wednesday.

Maybe AEW salvages this? But seeing how things went with the devil storyline, I will not hold out hope. You can easily see why Eric Bischoff feels AEW TV is the most horrific pro wrestling show on prime time cable in forever.
